College Talk Featuring: HPU Women’s Head Coach Gina Brewer shares about the college recruiting process, scholarship opportunities, HPU University, student-athlete demands, and more!

Coach Brewer just completed her fifth season at HPU with a 44-34-9 record while at the helm. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Brewer came to Hawai’i in 2008 to be an assistant coach at the University of Hawaii. Prior to Hawai’i, Gina was an assistant at Utah State University from 2006 to 2007. Her first collegiate soccer job was at the University of Idaho as a graduate assistant from 2003-2005 where she received her Masters of Education in Physical Education and Health.

During her playing days, Brewer was part of a very successful program at the University of Washington from 1998-2001. During her career, the Huskies went to the NCAA tournament three times, including a Pac-10 Championship in 2000. She played at UW with the current USA Women’s National Team goalkeeper Hope Solo. While there, Brewer received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, with a minor in Communications.

Gina currently holds a United States Soccer Federation “A” coaching license and she also coaches youth soccer here in Hawaii for the Leahi Soccer Club.

Special Guest Speaker: Emelia Haraguchi, DPT will share key elements on how to remain injury free while focusing on knees and ankles specifically. She will also share her experience as a college student-athlete at Vanguard University where she played an important role as team Captain. Emelia graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology and earned her doctorate degree in Physical Therapy at Champman University in 2011. While in California Emelia worked alongside one of the west coat’s top orthopedic surgeons to author a pilot clinical study of symptoms and function before and after total knee replacement. We are lucky to have her on Kaua’i where she resides with her husband Randall Haraguchi and daughter Lilah!
